AHMEDABAD: A group of 250 students from five schools in Navrangpura area visited Navrangpura police station on Tuesday as part of the state police's Suraksha Setu initiative. The students were accompanied by teachers and staff members of the schools. The schoolchildren greeted the policemen with flowers and tied friendship bands to show their gratitude. A woman police sub-inspector was especially deployed to interact with the girls. The students were curious about the functioning of the firearms and asked about the requirements for joining the police force, its duties and human rights. P M Sarvaiya, inspector of Navrangpura police station, said that the city police officials are reaching out to the school and college students to create awareness about the police's work and how citizens can be helpful in maintaining law and order. "Suraksha Setu is an initiative where we try to bridge the gap between the police and the public. The students were eager to know about the functioning of the police, right from filing a complaint to deliverance of justice and other services such as seeking permission for organizing events or police verification for passport," he said. courtsy-toi.
