Police Medal:Chandigarh: दो सीनियर पुलिस अधिकारियों को पुलिस पदक. two senior police officials are awarded president police medals.

Two senior officials of the UT Administration were awarded the President's Police Medal on the eve of Republic Day on Friday. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of UT Police Alok Kumar was honoured for his meritorious services, and Inspector General (IG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Kulbir Singh was awarded for his distinguished services. Kumar had joined the UT Police as the Headquarters SSP in May, 2010 and was later promoted as DIG of UT Police. During the 16 years of his service, he held important positions like Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Central, and ASP (Traffic) in the Chandigarh Police, SP of Saiha District in Mizoram, Additional DCP West, Additional DCP, DCP of the Central District and DCP Special Branch of the Delhi Police. He was posted as the additional DCP of the Central District during an explosion in Jama Masjid, Delhi. As the DCP Central, Delhi, he took swift measures to bury the Holy Quran after it was burnt by protesters in a clash at Ghata Masjid, Darya Ganj. In Chandigarh, DIG Alok Kumar has worked for the modernisation of the police force, welfare of police personnel and infrastructure development. He has been instrumental in the launch of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) project. He also initiated various welfare and correctional programmes for the inmates and employees of the prison. IG Kulbir Singh, who is at present posted in the North-West Sector, Chandigarh, spent most of his time in service in the insurgency infested areas of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Assam. During his 36 years of service, he served for eight years in militancy prone areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He also served as SP operations in the Punjab Police on deputation. Singh was instrumental in killing four militants and capturing two AK-47 rifles in an encounter in Anantnag, Kashmir, in 1990. Earlier, Singh has been decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service by the President and also Police Special (Duty) medal for Nagaland, Assam, Punjab, Manipur and Jammu & Kashmir Commendations Disc and letters in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
