Maharastra Police: Mumbai Police: Police ask public to be alert against crimes

MUMBAI: What do cops do when they are unable to control petty crimes like house breaking and thefts? They ask the public to be alert against such crimes.

The four police stations in Vasai region have printed 3,000 posters and 2,000 stickers listing all points to prevent crimes. The posters and stickers are being pasted in housing societies, lifts and on the streets of the region.


The region has been witnessing several cases of thefts and house breaking. The police have been unable to get a breakthrough in most cases. The police decided to ask citizens to be alert and prevent such incidents.

Residential flat owners' have been advised to install security doors in addition to having strong main doors locks. Using the peep hole and security chains while opening doors to strangers, have been suggested. Flat owners' have been directed to discourage hawkers.

Those going out of city for days together have been advised to keep an electric bulb on while they are away. Flat owners have been advised to keep their valuables and cash in bank lockers when they are away from home. The region has witnessed a series of house break-ins in the last two to three months. In most cases, valuables and cash were robbed from the houses.


Large housing societies have been advised to install CCTV cameras. All residential buildings have been told to keep security guards round-the-clock. Security guards will have to maintain a register of visitors' which will have to be inspected by the society members. Housing societies have been advised to have high compound walls and well illuminated surroundings'.
